Drinking And Driving:-The maximum legal level of alcohol in the bloodstream is 0.09% (080mg alcohol /100ml of blood is the legal limit, provided they are capable to drive.)
Driving Licence:-All national driving licences are accepted, the minimum age for driving a temporarily imported vehicle is 18.(17)
Fines:-The Cypriot traffic Police are allowed to impose on the spot fines(No on the spot fines issued)
Fuel:-Unleaded petrol (95 and 98 RON are readily available. It is forbidden to carry fuel in a can in a vehicle. Diesel is available but LPG is not.(Leaded 98 RON and unleaded 95 RON is available. Carrying of fuel in cans is permitted, although not whilst onboard a ferry. Diesel (mazot) is available, but LPG is not.)
Lights:-Lights must be used between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise. Spotlamps are prohibited.
Motorcycles:-Crash helmets are compulsary whilst riding a motorcycle.
Motor Insurance:-Third party insuance in the minimum compulsary.(Green cards are not accepted, temporary insurance may be purchased at port of arrival.)
Seat Belts:-If seat belts are fitted to the vehicle, it is compulsary that they be worn.(It is compulsary for front seat occupants to wear a seat belt.)
Speed Limits:-The following are standard speed limits for private vehicles without trailers, although they may be varied by signs. In built up areas the speed limit is 31mph (50kph). Outside of built up areas the limit is 49mph (80kph) on ordinary roads and 62mph (100 kph) on motorways. The minimum speed limit on motorways is 40mph (65kph).(Standard legal limits are 31mph (50kph) in built up areas and 43mph (70kph) or 49mph (80kph) outside of built up areas.)
Other Information:-In Cyprus, the rule is to drive on the left hand side of the road. It is compulsary to carry two warning triangles and the use of horn is prohibited between 2200-0600 hrs and whilst in the vicinity of hospitols.
