Drinking And Driving:-Drink driving is strictly forbidden, 0% of alcohol is allowed in the bloodstream.

Driving Licence:-The minimum age at which a full UK driving licence holder may drive a temporarily imported car is 18.

Fines:-The Croatian Police will impose an on the spot fine and issue a ticket. This ticket must then be used to pay the fine at a bank or post office within 8 days. For foreign nationals, the Police are allowed to hold your passport until they recieve satisfactory proof that the fine has been paid.

Fuel:-Both leaded (98 RON) and unleaded (95 and 98 RON) are available. It is forbidden to carry fuel in a can in your vehicle. Diesel (Dizel) is also available as well as LPG in some larger towns.

Lights:-It is compulsary to drive with dipped headlamps during the day.

Motorcycles:-Crash helmets are compulsary whilst riding a motorcycle. Dipped headlamps must be used at all times. Children under 12 cannot ride as passengers.

Motor Insurance:-Third party insuance in the minimum compulsary.

Seat Belts:-If seat belts are fitted to the vehicle, it is compulsary that they be worn.

Speed Limits:-The following are standard speed limits for private vehicles without trailers, although they may be varied by signs. In built up areas the speed limit is 31mph (50kph). Outside of built up areas the limit is 55mph (90kph) on ordinary roads, 68mph (110kph) on expressways and 80mph (130kph) on motorways.

Other Information:-It is compulsary for drivers to carry a set of spare bulbs, a tow rope/towing bar, first aid kit and a warning triangle. During winter months, especially in Gorski Kotar and Lika regions the use of snow chains is compulsary. It is illigal to use spiked tyres. Upon entering Croatia, the authorities will inspect any visible damage to the vehicle and issue a certificate, this must be produced upon leaving the country.
